Bhawani Shankar Nial [India]
It’s a Lie Today (and other two poems)
At times I leap
over the hills of light
and search darkness,
but in my journey to darkness
when I look back
I find the light disappear
and even I do not find
the darkness in my fist.
Sometimes
the light becomes dark
and dark turns to light
and the things which were
true tomorrow
seems to be false today.
I feel proud
to create a world of my own
but the earned darkness is
not under my control today
though the pride became
my habit in the annals of time,
the light too is
not under my control.
The eternal truth
is that there's always
a distance between
the truth and the lie.
I Have to Die One Day
I was in sheer oblivion
As to
I have to die
At an auspicious hour,
For stuck I was
In the tangles
Of household life
Of ephemeral affairs.
A pious realm,
No less than my mother land
Where I was born
And earned
Many a name and defame,
Where I have to die
Searching
And selecting time,
But, alas! I have forgotten
Of my doom,
Getting stuck
With mundane mire.
Meanwhile
There came
For meeting
Some beloveds
Of mine,
Old and new as well;
Some displayed
Their attractive figure
And attire,
The other with
The articulations on
The philosophy and
Definition of life;
The mystery
Of birth and death.
Soon after
Their departure
There appeared
My friends and foes
Rather quite familiar ;
My days got devoured
With their discourse
And directions
On confronting life's
New challenges
And affairs..
Thus dwindling
Were my seconds, hours
And aeons
Of my mundane
And ascetic life;
Eventually oblivious
I was of my death
At an auspicious hour
Before you all...
The Speed of that Train
The train moved
so fast that
I could not probe deep into
the unfothomable sea
and could not make out
how the tides generate power
or
how many boats float
on the serene water
or
how the little fishes and
the sea-whales jump over
every now and then
and how in a moment
disappear into the water.
The distance of time
the train travelled
since its birth through
the shrill sound of its whistle
declares it's horoscope.
That primitive train runs
at a speed of its own time
blowing the antique whistle.
The train was so fast that
I could not even see
the farmers who were working in the field
at the feet of the hills
who battled for the
making of a nation,
I could not also feel
the long tradition of pain
which became their religion.
During my long journey
I could not even meet
the princes who
reign over the land of hills
with its flora and fauna,
who considered to be the
most beautiful lady
of the world,
who comes out of her
palace of caves
once in a year
in the winter to sprinkle
smiles everywhere.
The speed of the train and
its long whistle
was quite unknown to
the co-travellers who
were aliens to the land.
Amidst the deafened noise
of the train
I could not see my inner being
and know my very existence
The train was so fast that
it even travelled the
time ahead of its time.

和哲理;
一生;
